Global Vision

The Magnolia church of Christ believes very strongly in trying to carry out the Great Commission in both Magnolia and around the world.  Jesus said in Mark 16:15-16, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.  Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”

To accomplish this task we spend a high percentage of the congregation's budget on mission efforts. To make every effort to be as effective and efficient as possible, we often partner with other congregations to support mission works that they have already established.  No matter what time of day it is, there are brethren around the world spreading the Gospel of Jesus because the family of God here at the Magnolia church of Christ shares the financial blessings God has entrusted to our stewardship.

Missions We Support

Currently, we support nine mission works.
Bible Training Center in French West Africa

The Bible Training Center near Zinvie, Benin, is a three-year campus for training native French-speaking African preachers.  Established in 1995, through the vision of the elders of the Benton (Kentucky) church of Christ and Dr. George Akpabli, Bible Training Center has trained over 160 preachers who are spreading the pure Gospel of Christ across French West Africa.

French West Africa represents 11 countries with the combined land size of the United States and 200 million souls.  In just 20 years, Bible Training Center has graduates who have planted churches in every one of those countries!  During this time, the Lord’s church has grown from zero presence to approximately 300 congregations and over 7,000 Christians!

The goal of the Bible Training Center is to have full enrollment each year and result in 20,000 Christians by the year 2020.  Students pay no tuition and the school is funded 100% by churches of Christ and individuals.

French African Christian Education (F.A.C.E.) is the organization established in 2007 with a board of directors (elders, deacons, and business leaders from churches of Christ across the U.S.) that facilitates the resources, policies, and oversight of the school.

Eastern European Mission

Since 1961, Eastern European Mission (EEM) has been providing God’s Word to the people of Russia, Ukraine, and Eastern Europe in their own languages. For many years, EEM found ways to get the Bibles through the Iron Curtain. In 1989, God brought The Wall down. Now, EEM provides Bibles and Biblical literature in 22 languages to nations of the former Communist Bloc. These materials are provided to individuals, mission churches, campaign groups, and other organizations related to the church that teach God’s Word in former communist nations.

EEM also provides Biblical literature to families, youth camps, public universities, public schools, public libraries, prisons, hospitals, orphanages, and anywhere else Bibles are needed.  All Bibles and literature are free to the recipients.  EEM is the sole provider of Bibles and study guides to the public school system of Ukraine, which requires students to take a Christian Values course.

As the governments in Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and Croatia have changed, so have EEM’s opportunities for reaching people. With the demise of communism and the birth of new freedoms, EEM has been able to gain easier access and is developing new materials and programs to meet the changing needs in the former Communist Bloc.

Eastern European Mission is under the oversight of the elders of the Prestoncrest Church of Christ in Dallas.

Project Philippines

Project Philippines is a mission to take the Gospel of Christ to the people of the Philippines and to provide much-needed educational resources so Filipinos can grow to know Jesus Christ.

Project Philippines is a team of approximately 15 workers, both Filipino and American. It is a 3-fold project designed to reach the lost and bring glory to God in the Republic of the Philippines, a nation of nearly 90 million people in the continent of Asia. The Philippines is an island nation of about 7,100 islands (only about a hundred are inhabited).

The first phase of Project Philippines is Leyte Christian College (LCC). LCC offers a four-year Bible degree to students who are willing to study hard and want to take the gospel to their world. Soon, LCC hopes to offer other degree plans including English, Women’s Ministry, and Youth Ministry.

The second phase of Project Philippines is to construct a Christian school to provide education for students pre-school through high school.  The third phase of the project is to build an orphanage for the homeless children in the Philippines.

Project Philippines is under the oversight of the elders of the Southwest Church of Christ in Amarillo.

Church of Christ India Missions

Since 1979, Church of Christ India Missions has conducted over 2.9 million one-day Gospel meetings.  From that work, over 6.25 million have been baptized.  This is an Indian work.  With over 25,000 Indian preachers working, much can be accomplished.  India Missions uses what they call the 4T formula to prepare Indian men to serve as preachers throughout the country: teach them, train them, trust them, and turn them loose.

Church of Christ India Missions is under the oversight of the elders of the Shiloh church of Christ in Hazel Green, Alabama.

Will Hanstein
Southeast Institute of Biblical Studies

Brother Hanstein received Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee.  He worked as a college minister for the Finger Church of Christ in Finger, Tennessee, from 1997-2000.  Following that, he preached in La Grange, Texas, for four years, also serving as a co-director of the area Bible Camp.  He served as Dean of Graduate Studies for the Bear Valley Bible Institute of Denver from 2004-2015.  While there, he helped plant a congregation in the mountain town of Conifer, Colorado.  In June of 2015, brother Hanstein became the director of Southeast Institute of Biblical Studies in Knoxville, Tennessee.  He and his wife have two children.

Southeast Institute of Biblical Studies (SIBS) offers an intensive two-year program, where students study every book of the Bible on their paths to preaching God’s Word.  Due to the small student body at SIBS, the highly- experienced staff is able to give personal instruction to help meet individual needs. Likewise, students are able to grow close to each other and build relationships that last long beyond graduation.  SIBS does not charge tuition, but students are responsible for their living expenses.

Vietnam

John Duong has been preaching in Vietnam for six years.  Due to persecution from the government, John has had to move several times, and is now serving Christians in the cities of Ho Chi Minh, Tien Giang, Long Hai, and Long An.  After six baptisms in April of 2015, the congregations John serves now total 64 souls.  In order to avoid further persecution, these brothers and sisters meet in the privacy of their houses to worship God and study His word.

Special Appeals

Lastly, we try to help with other good mission efforts that may need some extra funds from time to time. This money comes from the "Special Appeals" portion of the Missions budget and is for one-time assistance to various missions efforts other churches of Christ are sponsoring. The Missions Committee considers each request and prioritizes the requests so we can help as many good efforts as funds allow.
